Planning a Motorcycle Trip

Whether the trip is going to go well, or if there will be problems along the way is usually a matter of fate. However, by properly planning a motorcycle trip, many of these pitfalls can be eliminated. Preparation, and especially proper preparation is everything when it comes to a motorcycle ride and should be considered beforehand.

So, lets discuss the usual and general game plan for a typical motorcycle trip.

It doesn't matter where you intend to ride to, these tips can always help. Before getting started, one should make sure that both the motorcycle and the rider is in good shape. Long rides can take its tole on both man and machine therefore, be sure that both are up to the part.

As far as the machine is involved, make sure that all safety features work properly and ensure that cables are well lubricated and that all fluid levels are full. Tires are the most important item on a motorcycle and need to be free of excessive wear and have the pressure at the proper rating.

As far as items to include on your journey, this can be virtually anything. However, this mini list will get you started and include some of the necessities.

Tools is always the first thing that should go on the list. Breakdowns do occur and a tool kit is crucial to fixing them. Be sure to include a flat tire repair kit in this tool kit. Bungee straps come in handy at times and are also lightweight and can be carried almost anywhere on the bike. A first aid kit will assist in certain times. Rain gear is another crucial item that all riders should have. It is better to have it and not need it than to not have it and need it. A knife can be handy at times. A map of your route and the area can keep you from getting lost, or at the very least, get you back on the right track. Carry a water bottle. There will be times when you are thirsty and there is no place to get a drink.

These are just a few of the necessities that a rider would want on one of these trips. Clothing, money, and a camera should certainly be added to this list too. After all these items are added, then personally consider what some of the other items are that you would like to take. Keep in mind that total weight of everything is a concern at all times and must be adhered to in order to bot travel light, as well as decrease possible stress on the motorcycle that could become the cause of a breakdown.

So, when planning a motorcycle trip, keep all of these things in mind and be wise about it. Plan accordingly and your ride should be a wonderful experience. Also, one other thing, be safe.
