Long Distance Motorcycle Travel

Long distance motorcycle travel is a wonderful and rewarding opportunity to see and do many things that may not be accessible in a regular car. But, before you start getting delusions of grander and decide to jump on that motorcycle and ride, there are a few things that you may want to consider first.

These items can make a large difference between having a good ride and having a poor ride. Therefore, lets get started and discuss what is or would be required when undertaking and event such as this.

First off, lets start with the motorcycle itself. It does not have to be a brand new top of the line with all the bells and whistles type of motorcycle. On the contrary, it can be an older type that has been a staple to you for years if you prefer. Although, no matter which type it is, it must be mechanically sound. It must have good tires, brakes, lights, etc. Be sure that all the fluid levels are full and that it is all in working order. This is where a motorcyclist should spend a little bit of money and employ the knowledge of a good motorcycle mechanic. They will be able to let you know if anything needs addressing before taking off on a road trip. It will certainly pay off in the long run.

Now, lets consider what will need to go with you. Keep in mind that this is just a basic list and that it is only to be used for a starting point. Although, keep in mind that you will want to travel as light as possible and keep the overall weight down.

There will be hot days and cold days and the clothing that you have will need to suffice in one way or another. Therefore, one will need both warm and cool weather clothing. A jacket is a necessity and so is a rain suit. A tool kit is also a must item as well as a first aid kit. Both of these are worth their weight in gold when needed and can possible say a life. As far as the tool kit is concerned, be sure to include a flat tire repair kit in it. Maybe even a can of Fix a Flat.

Water is another very nice thing to have when there are thirsty times and nowhere to get a drink. Like mentioned earlier, these are basically only the suggested required necessities. There are many more that can and are included in this this. However, when planning your trip, be sure to consider all possibilities and to plan far enough ahead.

So, when deciding to go on that long distance motorcycle travel adventure that you have been dreaming about for years, be sure to include all the thought that is required into the planning.
