Motorcycle Camping

Many motorcyclist's enjoy riding across the open road without a care in the world. It is this freedom that is so compelling when it comes to this subject. Motorcycle camping is part of this arena and is most definitely par for the course.

Therefore, camping gear, at least the very basics, will be required to tag along with you from place to place. Lets take a look at how the camping aspect fits into the motorcycle genre which, coincidently seems to fit well and go hand in hand with one another.

Before we get started into the camping discussion, lets consider a few items that will need to be taken care of first in order for that almighty camping trip to be a successful one.

Maintenance is the one thing that will need to be taken care of beforehand. Be sure that your motorcycle is in the best working order. Breakdowns on the road are costly in both time and money and can be the cause of a ruined trip. It only takes a little preventative maintenance measures to solve this potential dilemma, therefore take care of this ahead of time.

Packing for a trip as such is really not that hard. Be sure to only take necessities and camping gear that is absolutely required. Also, be sure to include both hot and cold weather clothing and a rain suit. These will be required at one point along the way.

As far as camping is concerned, scope out the camp sites that you plan to stay at along the way. Know where they are and if motorcycle camping is allowed. Most campgrounds welcome motorcycle riders however, there are some who do not and you want to make sure that the campground that you plan on staying at is not one of them. If possible, make reservations ahead of time to avoid any potential fill ups and lack of space problems.

If you have not previously made reservations, then be sure to stop earlier in the evening at the campground before the rush begins. This will be the best way to ensure a camping spot. Also, setting up camp in the light is much easier than setting one up in the dark. Building a fire is also much easier when you can see what you are doing. Be aware of this and judge accordingly.

The type of camping equipment that one would need actually depends upon personal preference. However, the basics will be needed by everyone and include the type or kind that a typical backpacker would use. Lightweight type items are the norm therefore, tents, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, and packs must fit well together and not be heavy. Heavy items can increase costs along the way through excessive fuel consumption as well as breakdowns. There are many campgrounds that offer camping equipment for rent and these are perfectly suited and ideal for motorcycle camping.
